The Business Family House Hosts 4th Workshop in the Next Generation Development Series: “Family Office Formation and Investing in Sports, Media, Entertainment, & Healthspan”
The Business Family House recently hosted the fourth workshop in its Next Generation Development Series, titled “Family Office Formation and Investing in Sports, Media, Entertainment, & Healthspan.” This event reflects the organization's ongoing commitment to empowering and supporting the NextGen. Held at the Four Seasons Riyadh on September 9, the workshop was organized in collaboration with The National Center for Family Business. The event featured insights from The Raine Group, a leading global bank specializing in technology, media, and telecommunications, offering expert knowledge on investment opportunities in these sectors.
A special highlight of the workshop was a fireside chat with Dr. Mahmoud Al Yamani, Head of Health, Wellbeing, and Biotech at NEOM, who provided visionary insights into the future of healthcare. Additionally, Boris Sofman, CEO of Agility Robotics, joined virtually from San Francisco to share groundbreaking insights into the future of artificial intelligence and robotics, adding to the enriching experience for all attendees.

The Business Family House recently hosted the third workshop in its Next Generation Development Series, titled “The Entrepreneurial Family Galaxy: Challenges and Best Practices for Transgenerational Prosperity.” This event underscores the organization's ongoing commitment to empowering and supporting the NextGen. The workshop took place on April 17 at the Asharqia Chamber in the Eastern Province, bringing together family business leaders and NextGen participants to explore strategies for achieving transgenerational prosperity. The session was led by Prof. Alfredo De Massis from IMD and Dr. Emanuela Rondi, who shared invaluable insights into fostering long-term success within family businesses. The Business Family House successfully hosted the "Succession and Communication in the Family Business" workshop at Le Meridien in Riyadh on January 18, the second workshop of the NextGen Development Series. The workshop was conducted by the renowned expert, Christine Blondel from INSEAD, and brought together 27 Saudi family business members from different generations. The event kicked off with a Zoom pre-session on January 9 and included a social dinner at Santini Restaurant on January 17 for networking. The event was sponsored by SEDCO Holding, KPMG Saudi, AlKhorayef Group, and Nesam Holding. This initiative reflects The Business Family House's ongoing commitment to fostering the growth and sustainability of family enterprises in Saudi Arabia.
6th International Family Business Research Forum: A Conference of Insight and Expertise in Dubai/Sharjah
The business family house supported the organization of The 6th International Family Business Research Forume along with the American University of Sharjah, Sharjah Entrepreneurship Center (Sheraa), STEP Project Global Consortium (SPGC), Tharawat Family Business Forum, IPAG Business School. The forume took place in Dubai/Sharjah. Over three days, family members, policy makers, scholars, and practitioners engaged in insightful conversations and information exchange within the realm of family business. BFH's Family Business Succession Planning Workshop with KPMG and The Saudi Investment Bank
BFH presented a workshop on “Family Business Succession Planning” hosted by The Saudi Investment Bank. This is the first in a series of events in collaboration with KPMG Saudi Arabian. In the workshop, Dr. Hanoof Abokhodair and Dr. Dalal Alrubaishi presented insights from a study conducted in collaboration between KPMG and The National Center for Family Businesses. The workshop was held in Four Seasons Hotel in Riyadh, and attended by family business clients from KPMG and The Saudi Investment Bank.

The Business Family House conducted the first Workshop in the Next Generation Development Series titled "Responsible Family Ownership". The workshop was delivered by Prof. Rodrigo Basco from the American University in Sharjah who holds the Sheikh Saoud bin Khalid bin Khalid Al-Qassimi Chair in Family Businessin. Dr. Qaisar Metawea, from Dr. Qaisar Hamed Metawea Law Firm, also delivered the legal aspect of family ownership. The workshop took place in Joudyan Hotel in Jeddah and was sponsored by SEDCO and KPMG.
This is the first workshop in the Next Generation Development Series that BFH is committed to deliver for next generation family members.
The Business Family House signs an MOU with KPMG Saudi Arabia
The Business Family House is proud to be partnering with KPMG Saudi Arabia in the family business space. Following the collaboration between the two organizations on publishing two research papers about succession planning and conflict resolution, this MoU aims to deliver selected initiatives to support business families in the region and contribute to the development of the family business ecosystem. The signing took place in the KPMG Jeddah office, which was attended by Mr. Ebrahim Baeshen representing KPMG and Dr. Hanoof Abokhodair, representing BFH.
Dr. Hanoof Abokhodair and Dr. Dalal Alrubaishi participate in Hourani & Partners Roundtable Series 2023 in Riyadh
Dr. Hanoof Abokhodair and Dr. Dalal Alrubaishi took part in The Hourani Roundtable Series 2023, which aims to advance the conversation and collaboration between the different professional advisors who support business families in the region. The first in the series, held by Chadi Hourani and Sunita Singh-Dalal at the Hyatt Regency Riyadh-Olaya, the roundtable discussion focused on Succession and Family Governance. The event was attended by several experts from different fields who have been working closely with families in the region.
The Business Family House conducts the third workshop on Empowering Women in Family Businesses at Riyadh Chamber
In addition to the Asharqia and Jeddah Chamber workshops, BFH conducted the third and last workshop on women empowerment in family businesses, which was organized and hosted by the Riyadh Chamber, in affiliation with the National Centre for Family Businesses, on March 20, 2023, in collaboration with the National Center for Family Businesses. The workshop's goal was to further examine the contributions and difficulties faced by women working in family businesses in various areas to develop comprehensive recommendations.
The Business Family House held the second day of its Annual Forum under the title “Fit for the Future”
BFH Annual Forum’s second day took place in Jeddah on January 17, 2023 in affiliation with the National Centre for Family Businesses (NCFB) with the title “Fit for the Future”. The event was a closed-circuit experts roundtable discussion joined Mr. Ghazi Abbar, Mr. Abdulaziz Alsubeaei, Mr. Khaled AlFahim, and Dr. Lama Alsulaiman, who shared their perspectives and experiences with their NextGens in the first part of the discussion. In the second part, our Affiliate Partners and collaborators focused on sharing the NextGens perspectives to bridge intergeneration communication and discuss ways for intergenerational collaboration towards a sustainable future.

The forum hosted NextGen family members, family Business leaders, and family business experts, in a day full with activities discussing family business sustainability and continuity, navigating through diverse challenges and potential solutions that family businesses may encounter.

As a follow-up session to Asharqia Chamber workshop, BFH held another workshop titled: Empowering Women in Family Businesses on December 22, 2022 in collaboration with Jeddah Chamber and the National Centre for Family Business (NCFB). The aim of the workshop was to further explore contributions and challenges of women in family businesses, with the aim to come up with a consolidated recommendations together with a third workshop to be conducted in Riyadh.

The discussion covered the best preventive measure for minimizing conflicts in business families as well as the role of arbitration and legal arrangements that could potentially address disputes.

Dr. Hanoof Abokhodair have joined a panel in the forum along with Dr. Ayth AlMubarak, Mrs. Kholoud Dakhil, and Mrs. Sara AlMuhaidib in the 7th Annual Women Economic Forum 2022 Asharqiya Chamber. The event took place virtually on the 16th of November 2022. The discussion focused on empowering women as owners and leaders of family businesses and the role the National Centre of Family Businesses is playing to advance to role women play.

During the FBCG Annual summit in Dubai on the 19th and 20th of October 2022, Dr. Hanoof Abokhodair have joined Mr. Abdullah Alkhorayef, Mr. Sultan Olayan, Ms. Amira Sijwani, Ms. Dalal Almutlag, and Mr. Nawaf Alzayani in a panel about responsible leadership during times of transition. The discussion focused on the different transitions that business families go through during their journey across their lifecycle stages.

In cooperation with Asharqia Chamber and the National Centre for Family Business (NCFB), BFH conducted a workshop titled: Empowering Women in Family Businesses on October 13th, 2022. The workshop took place in Asharqia Chamber in Dammam with the participation of 35 women belonging to a number of prominent business families in the Eastern Region. The workshop's objective is to explore women participation in family businesses and the challenges they face, with the aim to come up with a set of recommendations to empower women and enhance their involvement in family businesses.

As an important milestone, the Business Family House have signed an MOU with Asharqia Chamber, Dammam on the 13th of October, 2022. BFH will share expertise in several initiatives to spread awareness about important topics for business families, conduct research and, deliver workshops which aim at increasing awareness and building capacity among business families and their next generation.

Dr. Dalal Alrubaishi and Dr. Hanoof Abokhodair presented the KPMG research that they lead on succession planning in Saudi family businesses on October 11, 2022 at the KPMG Saudi Arabia MESAC Family Business Summit in Riyadh. They emphasized the significance of having fair selection procedures for the family business's next leader, avoiding parental favouritism in the process, and assuring perceived fairness among family heirs in ownership succession. This study is a collaboration between KPMG Saudi Arabia and The National Centre for Family Businesses.
